Home office risk assessment

Home office

Home office legislation

Conducting a risk assessment of home offices is both an occupational safety and labor law obligation for employers. The labor law rules governing remote work are set out in Act I of 2012 on the Labor Code, while the occupational safety rules are contained in Act XCIII of 1993 on Occupational Safety.

The provisions of these two laws must be applied taking into account the specific characteristics of working from home. It is the employer's responsibility to ensure safe working conditions that do not pose a health risk, even in the case of remote working (home office), so the Occupational Safety and Health Act imposes occupational safety obligations on employers with regard to working from home. The main focus of this is a risk assessment prior to the modification of the work or the employment contract, which verifies the conditions for safe work. (Ref.: Mvt. 86/A. § (3) paragraph.)

Home office risk assessment and occupational safety

The employer must conduct a risk assessment of the working environment created by the employee in terms of home office. Following a successful audit, but before the employee starts working from home, they must also receive occupational safety training. Both the risk assessment and the preparation of the training material require the involvement of a person with occupational safety qualifications.

Our employees have decades of experience in risk assessment of home working environments and in preparing occupational safety training materials. With our newly developed and tested online audit system and the associated e-learning training, we can quickly and efficiently fulfill employers' occupational safety obligations related to remote work. For those of our partners who require traditional on-site audits to check the conditions of working from home, we continue to provide the usual high-quality service throughout the country.

Home office risk assessment using software

In order to comply with legal requirements, X-Cedit employees have developed brand new software that is suitable for quick, simple, and extremely cost-effective monitoring of workstations designed for working from home, while also providing employees with special fire safety and occupational safety training. The primary considerations in developing the software were full compliance with legal requirements and ensuring that it was simple, secure, and easy to use. Our partners who use the software receive a login password and high-level access rights so that they can manage, monitor, and track work processes.

The experts at X-Cedit prepared the teaching materials and the risk assessment forms needed to assess the risks of working from home. Important! Both risk assessment and the preparation of educational materials require the involvement of a person with occupational safety qualifications.

Employees enrolled in the program simply need to log into the software, familiarize themselves with the fire safety and occupational safety rules that apply to them, complete the test correctly, and answer the questions on the assessment form with yes or no. After uploading one or two photos taken at the workstation, the employee has completed their task with a single click. X-Cedit's trained professionals then analyze the information received to determine whether the workstation meets the conditions for safe working practices that do not pose a health risk, give their opinion, and record the results in a PDF file using the software.

X-Cedit sends the employer a PDF file containing the expert opinion on the workstations for further use. This removes any legal obstacles on the part of the employer.
