Fire Safety Regulations
How can fire safety regulations facilitate a company's fire safety work?
Both employers and employees may already be familiar with fire safety regulations (hereinafter referred to as "regulations") as a document. Fire protection is a priority among employers' obligations, as there are numerous laws in Hungary that deal with this topic and prescribe various tasks that must be performed.
In order for employers to navigate all of these, it is worth compiling these tasks and recording them in our own regulations. Because if it is mandatory to have such a document, it is worth preparing it with due care and professional expertise.
What should fire safety regulations include?
The legislation provides us with numerous guidelines on what a policy should contain. We have the opportunity to clarify within the company who is responsible for what tasks in relation to fire protection. We can designate the person or position responsible for inspecting fire safety equipment and devices, or the fire safety officer who directs the appropriate evacuation in the event of a fire alarm.
It is definitely worth putting the fire safety rules in writing, which can be explained to employees as part of fire safety training so that they are aware of them. What activities can be carried out in which parts of the work area and what needs to be taken into account to prevent fires from occurring.
We can include the mandatory fire safety training requirements in the regulations. Who will implement it, in what form, and how often employees must participate.
In our daily work, we encounter equipment that we need to be familiar with and possibly use in the event of a fire. This knowledge can also be included in the regulations so that employees have the necessary knowledge, for example, regarding fire alarms and fire extinguishing, as these can occur in many different ways.
If a company occasionally carries out fire-hazardous activities, the process and conditions for these activities must also be specified in these regulations.
In addition to all this, the legislation ensures that the regulations include a point describing the calculation of evacuation times for larger rooms (with a capacity exceeding 50 people). This ensures that, in the event of a fire, employees can leave the room safely within the specified time limit.
Who can draw up fire safety regulations?
Taking all this into account, it is worth not only having these regulations drawn up, but having them drawn up well, because such a document can facilitate the company's fire safety operations.
In Hungary, the preparation of fire safety regulations is considered a specialized activity, meaning that only persons with the appropriate qualifications may prepare such regulations. Qualifications can be divided into two main groups: intermediate and advanced. If a company is required to employ a person with advanced fire safety qualifications, only that person may prepare and amend the regulations. In other cases, it is sufficient to have a person with intermediate qualifications perform the task.
